AT&T Nokia Lumia 1020 now $269.99, Lumia 920 $385 unlocked

The new Nokia Lumia 1020 launched on AT&T last week for $299.99 on contract, but it is now available for slightly less on Amazon.

The retailer often touts attractive deals for smartphones, offering devices for lower prices. In the case of the new Nokia camera smartphone, Amazon is offering the Lumia 1020 for $269.99 to interested buyers willing to commit to a two-year contract with AT&T. It may not be a huge discount, but it's still $30 less than AT&T's asking price for the smartphone.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 created quite some buzz with its whopping 41-megapixel camera and it finally made its debut in the U.S. as an AT&T exclusive. The handset is high-end and it sports the best camera currently available on a smartphone. Despite all the hype, however, the Lumia 1020 isn't exactly flying off the shelves.

While smartphone buyers have gotten used to paying around $199.99 for a new flagship on contract, the Nokia Lumia 1020 costs $100 more. That 41-megapixel camera sensor may make it worth it for some, but many feel that it's too big of an investment.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 also runs on Microsoft's Windows Phone operating system and most customers seem to prefer more popular platforms such as Android and iOS, especially when it comes to expensive devices. The combination of a hefty price tag and Windows Phone seems to have limited the success of the Lumia 1020, as initial reports suggest modest sales for the device.

A $30 price cut may not be able to significantly boost sales, but it's a good offer for those interested in purchasing the new smartphone. The AT&T Nokia Lumia 1020 is now available on Amazon in white, black and yellow color options, i.e. the same versions AT&T has to offer.

Amazon is also offering a deal on the older Nokia Lumia 920, which is now available unlocked for $389.99. The same handset on AT&T costs $99.99 on contract and $474.99 unlocked, without any commitment, which means that Amazon's deal is more substantial in this case.
