Verizon is yet to announce its HTC One launch, but a new report claims the smartphone will join Big Red's lineup soon in a stylish blue flavor.
The HTC One has been available for a good while on other carriers, but Verizon customers are still waiting for it. As it turns out, Verizon may get a special color version of the HTC One when it finally starts offering the smartphone.
The news comes from an exclusive Phone Arena report. The publication claims to have learned from an unnamed source that Verizon's inventory system now includes a new stock keeping unit (SKU) code for the HTC One: HTC6500LVWBLU, along with a concise description: "HTC One in Blue." The marketing name of the specific shade of blue is not available yet but the description leaves little room for interpretation.
Verizon promised to bring the HTC One to its network, but it did not provide any exact launch date. Previous reports suggested that Aug. 1 would be the big day, but now it appears that Verizon pushed back the HTC One launch to Aug. 15.
News of the purported Aug. 15 launch date first surfaced from Droid Life, which received documentation from its sources. With Aug. 1 come and gone and still no HTC One launch on Verizon, the new Droid Life report seems plausible. Aug. 15 is not confirmed either, which means that nothing is certain just yet.
On the other hand, Verizon is already very late to the HTC One party and a launch should be imminent. The new HTC flagship proved to be in high demand when it launched but now, several months later, other new smartphones such as the Moto X are making their debut and that great interest for the HTC One may fade.
Verizon may be trying to rekindle that demand by offering a special color version of the handset. Sprint has already scored the red model of the HTC One, so it would make sense for Verizon to get its own color version.
It's all in the rumor state for now but if the latest reports prove to be accurate, a blue HTC One will come waltzing in on Verizon's network in just a couple of weeks.
