Best Buy has started offering the Rogers version of the Moto X for a $169.99 price tag on a two-year contract.
The Moto X is one of the most anticipated smartphones of this year. It is the first device to come from Google and Motorola since Google acquired the company and it has high customization options that make it very appealing to consumers worldwide.
Moreover, Motorola claims that the Moto X is its very first smartphone to be completely created and assembled in the U.S., so that should be yet another reason for proud Americans to purchase the handset.
As it turns out, however, Canadian customers will apparently be the first ones to get their hands on the latest Moto X. Canadian carrier Rogers will sell the smartphone for $189.99 on a two-year contract, but Best Buy now offers the same version for $20 less than what the carrier is charging.
Best Buy's $169.99 price tag for the Rogers version of the Moto X is available for those who are willing to commit to a two-year contract with the carrier. Those who want the unlocked, contract-free version of the handset, meanwhile, will have to shell out $550. Both Best Buy and Rogers will offer the contract-free version for the same price.
One of the most-hyped features of the new Moto X lies in the smartphone's advanced customization options. In an unprecedented and unparalleled move, Motorola is giving customers the chance to personalize their handsets by choosing the color of the back panel, the buttons and the camera rim, or opting for a real-wood back panel that will become available sometime later.
The customization tool for the Moto X is called MotoMaker and it will also allow users to engrave their name or a short message on the back of the smartphone. Motorola believes that a smartphone has become too much of a personal item to have it standardized, with no personal touch, and plans to change all that with the Moto X.
Motorola's new flagship will launch in Canada in only black and white versions at first. The company confirmed that the MotoMaker will become available in the U.S. only through AT&T initially, with the other carriers to follow afterwards. Canada may get the customization option around the same time that the other U.S. carriers get it.
Check out the Rogers version of the Moto X on Best Buy at this link, where you can reserve the smartphone and pick it up in store. Rogers has already started shipping Moto X units to some of its stores in Canada over the weekend, so interested buyers can also call their local store to check whether the new smartphone has arrived.
