The Sony Xperia Z Ultra phablet has recently launched in some regions and reports are now starting to pile up regarding some issues with the handset's display.
This is not the first time that a much-anticipated device makes its debut and shortly after new owners start complaining about various issues. It happened recently with the new Google Nexus 7 and now the Sony Xperia Z Ultra seems to have some glitches of its own.
Sony's new phablet-like smartphone boasts a huge 6.4-inch display, but some users apparently experience some problems with that massive screen. Users took to various forums and YouTube to complain about issues with waking the display.
According to reports, the problem occurs when trying to wake the device by pressing the power button. The backlight reportedly turns on but the display remains blank or, in some cases, showing green lines. The operating system is running and the taps are audible, and some users reported that the screen suddenly awakes sometimes after if they repeatedly press the power button.
In one case detailed on an XDA Developers forum thread, a user says that in some cases they had to press the power button up to as many as 150 times before finally waking the display. The user in question is further complaining about a yellowish tint to the display, and issue encountered by other users as well.
Some Xperia Z Ultra users said the firmware update to build 14.1.B.0.475 fixed the issues they were experiencing, while for others the update didn't help at all. It remains unclear at this point whether these issues stem from a software glitch or a more complex hardware problem with some units.
If this turns out to be a software issue, and it probably will, Sony will likely provide an update fix soon to solve the problem. It's difficult to determine for now just how widespread this problem is. It doesn't seem to affect all Xperia Z Ultra units, but there are plenty of users experiencing issues with the device's display. Let us know if you've experienced similar or some other kinds of issues with the new Sony Xperia Z Ultra phablet.
