Sony's upcoming flagship codenamed 'Honami' will reportedly launch as the Xperia Z1 and the company has now posted a teaser image of the smartphone.
The Sony Honami or Xperia Z1 is expected to make its debut on Sept. 4, the very same day that Samsung will unveil its new Galaxy Note 3 phablet and its much-rumored Galaxy Gear smartwatch.
Unlike Samsung, however, Sony is joining the leak party with a teaser of its own, as the company has just posted an image of its new flagship smartphone. The photo Sony posted on Twitter doesn't reveal much, it just shows a power button and a short description.
"It's the smartphone everyone's been talking about...not long now," touts the description on the teaser image.
The new Sony Honami, or Xperia Z1, is expected to challenge Nokia's latest Lumia 1020. With a whopping 41-megapixel sensor, the Lumia 1020 is currently considered the best camera phone around. Sony aims to take on Nokia's offering with its brand new Honami camera phone, which will reportedly sport a 20-megapixel "G lens" rear camera.
Other rumored specs of the upcoming Sony flagship include the latest Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system, a full HD display (1080p) and a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. It remains unclear for now just how big the smartphone's display will be.
Sony has yet to announce when it will actually start selling the new device, but the smartphone is expected to be available in at least three color options - black, purple, and white - when it hits the market.
The recent trend also has big companies launching flagship smartphones first, followed by smaller and more affordable spinoffs. Samsung launched this trend with its Galaxy S3 Mini and continued this year with the Galaxy S4 Mini, HTC joined in with its HTC One Mini and Sony is now rumored to jump onboard with a mini version of its upcoming Honami flagship.
Keep in mind, however, that Sony has not confirmed this news, which means that it's all in the rumor state for now. Sept. 4 is just around the corner, however, and more details should become available as the big event draws closer.
