The upcoming LG G Pad tablet will apparently not boast the latest Snapdragon 800 after all, but will instead settle for the Snapdragon 600.
Earlier in August reports of an impending LG tablet started to surface. While earlier speculation did not make too many waves, a subsequent report from the company's home country of South Korea added more credibility to the rumor and sparked some interest in the purported G Pad slate.
Back on Aug. 17, Korea Herald claimed to have received information about the upcoming LG G Pad tablet from sources familiar with the matter. According to that report, the slate was supposed to sport an 8.3-inch display with Full HD resolution and pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor paired with 2GB of RAM. Based on the size, the first thought was that LG aims to go up against the Google Nexus 7, the Kindle Fire HD, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 and other slates in the 7- to 8-inch category.
A new Korean report, however, now claims that LG's upcoming tablet will pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor and not the latest Snapdragon 800, as previously rumored. The same report seems to confirm the 8.3-inch size of the display, noting that it will be a WXUGA panel with 350 nit brightness and 60 percent color reproduction rate.
The purported LG G Pad will reportedly come in two variants, Wi-Fi and LTE. The Wi-Fi variant will be Korean-bound, while the LTE model will make its way to the U.S. through Verizon Wireless.
LG is expected to unveil its new G Pad tablet at the IFA 2013 trade show in Berlin, which kicks off in early September. So far the company has not announced anything regarding an upcoming tablet and has not confirmed any of these reports. This means that it's all in the rumor state for now, so take things with a grain of salt.
If the reports do prove to be accurate and LG is gearing up to announce a new tablet at IFA 2013, more details should surface soon enough as September is just around the corner. Stay tuned for more details as they become available.
