Nokia's 41-megapixel camera smartphone, the Lumia 1020, may have launched worldwide but the UK still has to wait until the end of the month to get it.
The Nokia Lumia 1020 is already available for pre-order in the UK from some operators and retailers, but actual deliveries will not commence until Sept. 25.
Telefonica, the parent company of the O2 network, has grabbed the exclusive rights to offer the 64GB model of the Lumia 1020, and will hold on to that exclusivity until the end of the year. Fans of the 41-megapixel smartphone may be partial to this higher-capacity version because the handset captures awesome HD videos and stores a large master copy of each image, without allowing for additional memory via micro SD cards. Those who lie to shoot a lot of pictures and videos with their smartphone may need the extra storage space.
The Nokia Lumia 1020 price on O2 varies depending on plans. Customers can go for a standard monthly plan of £27 per month, which leaves a £260 upfront price tag for the handset. O2's Refresh option, meanwhile, requires users to choose an airtime plan first and then select what kind of financing they want. The carrier also offers LTE plans, with £27 per month for 5GB of data or £32 per month for 8GB of data. These two plans lead to four options, ranging from £0 upfront and a £600 total cost over two years, to £329.99 upfront and a total cost of £570 over two years.
So far, Vodafone has not announced how much it will charge for the Lumia 1020, but Three has disclosed its pricing for the handset. The latter will offer the 32GB model of the smartphone for £34 per month on its 500-minute unlimited data plan, with a £69 upfront cost for the handset. Three is also offering the Nokia Lumia 1020 for an upfront cost of £550 on a pay-as-you-go option. Interested customers can pre-order here.
All carriers are also offering Nokia-branded accessories for free with the purchase of the Lumia 1020. Both O2 and Three are offering a bundle that includes a tripod, the camera grip, as well as charging pads and covers. Phones4U, meanwhile, is offering a pack with a wireless speaker and six months of free Netflix for those who choose a 4G plan.
