LG is reportedly working on a high-end phablet to rival the massive Sony Xperia Z Ultra in screen size, but with a higher pixel density.
The phablet market is undoubtedly booming, with several devices already official and others expected to arrive soon. The much-anticipated Samsung Galaxy Note 3, for instance, is out of the bag and is due to launch soon. HTC is widely expected to unleash a HTC One Max phablet soon, and Nokia is rumored to make its entrance to the phablet market this fall with a Lumia 1520 device.
LG recently launched its latest flagship smartphone, the LG G2, but the company seems to have much bigger plans. Literally bigger. While the LG G2 was well-received and got a lot of hype due to its high-end specs and innovative "Rear Key Concept," an upcoming phablet from LG sounds very exciting if the latest rumor is to be believed.
According to the folks over at AndroidSaS, LG is working on an Android phablet with the same display size and resolution as the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, i.e. 6.4 inches and 1080 x 1920 pixels. LG's offering, however, would have a higher pixel density at the same screen size - the Xperia Z Ultra has a pixel density of 342 pixels per inch (ppi), while the LG phablet would boast 418 ppi.
The AndroidSaS report further claims the upcoming LG phablet would boast the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 3GB of RAM and an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera. The device would also reportedly come with the recently-announced Android 4.4 KitKat.
The name of the phablet reportedly remains "undisclosed," much like the expected launch date. AndroidSaS does not mention where it got this information from, nor does it give any other details about the purported device. That said, the report doesn't seem to have much weight on its own, and it may or may not prove to be accurate.
LG has made no announcement regarding an upcoming phablet and without any additional information, or at least more leaks and rumors to back this up, it is strongly advised to take this with a good dose of skepticism.
