The new Sony Xperia Z1, unveiled last month at the IFA 2013 trade show in Berlin, will apparently launch on TELUS Canada on Oct. 15.
The handset boasts high-end specifications and is making its way to several countries and it now seems that the previously-rumored October timeframe for its debut in Canada was correct.
Earlier this month, rumors emerged that Bell will start offering the Sony Xperia Z1 to Canadian customers, setting a $699.95 price tag for the handset without a contract. It now seems that TELUS will start selling the device as well, making it available on its network starting on Oct. 15, but with a higher price tag than what Bell will reportedly be charging.
The news comes from MobileSyrup, which seems to have obtained an internal document showing that TELUS will get the Xperia Z1 as well.
"We previously let you know that Bell will come to market with the Z1 priced at $699.95 outright and we can now confirm TELUS' pricing, with the same Tuesday launch date, at $725 outright on a 2-year," reports the publication.
The Sony Xperia Z1 will be available subsidized as well, selling for $99 on a two-year contract. The smartphone sports a generous 5-inch full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.3GHz and 2GB of RAM under the hood.
Other specs of the new Sony Xperia Z1 include 16GB of internal storage capacity, a microSD card slot for additional memory and a powerful 3,000 mAh battery. The handset ships with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on board. A recent rumor claimed that it will receive an update to the upcoming Android 4.4 KitKat in November, but it seems rather unlikely. A software bump to Android 4.2 would appear more plausible.
The Sony Xperia Z1 is also rumored to make its U.S. debut soon on T-Mobile, but no official confirmation bolsters this claim. Sony previously announced that it would focus on Europe and Japan and has no big plans for China and the U.S., so the handset may take a while to reach the States.
