Apple's new flagship smartphone, the iPhone 5S, seems to face some battery issues. The company has acknowledged the problem and promised to replace any faulty handsets.
The newly-launched iPhone 5S created quite a stir upon its announcement. It launched as Apple's latest flagship, sporting high-end specs and innovative features, including the controversial fingerprint scanner called Touch ID. The new iPhone 5S is also supposed to offer a longer battery life compared to the previous model, but some owners of the smartphone have reported experiencing some battery issues with their new device.
The main issue seems to be that the battery drains very quickly or takes a long time to charge on affected iPhone 5S smartphones. The battery issue, however, is reportedly limited, which means that it doesn't affect all devices. Apple acknowledged the problem and said that it stems from a manufacturing defect.
"We recently discovered a manufacturing issue affecting a very limited number of iPhone 5S devices that could cause the battery to take longer to charge or result in reduced battery life," Apple spokeswoman Teresa Brewer explained in a statement to the New York Times. "We are reaching out to customers with affected phones and will provide them with a replacement phone."
The company did not disclose how many iPhone 5S handsets were affected by this issue. The lower-cost iPhone 5C, which launched alongside the new flagship, does not seem to have the same manufacturing problem.
Apple will replace any iPhone 5S units that are experiencing issues with their battery performance. If you have purchased a new iPhone 5S and are not satisfied with its battery life, it is advisable to contact Apple and see whether this manufacturing issue is behind the problem. If so, you should receive a replacement device.
The iPhone 5S proved to be very popular since its launch and Apple can barely keep up with demand for its new flagship smartphone. It remains to be seen whether the battery issues will affect sales of the handset or Apple can weather the storm with no large-scale consequences. If you have an iPhone 5S, let us know if you experience any issues with the phone's battery.
