Verizon Moto X drops $100 off price tag, now sells for $99.99 on-contract

Verizon has slashed $100 off the price tag of its Moto X, offering the new Motorola flagship for $99.99 when signing a new two-year contract.

Motorola recently dropped the price tag of the Moto X to $99.99 on-contract, as did Sprint and AT&T. Verizon is the latest carrier to join this party, now offering the smartphone for $99.99 as well.

The Moto X gained a lot of attention for several reasons. First of all, it's the first smartphone to launch from Motorola since Google acquired the company. Second, it has some neat functionality that takes voice commands to the next level. Moreover, the Moto X comes with unprecedented and unparalleled customization options through Motorola's Moto Maker, allowing users to choose how they want their smartphone to look like.

Moto Maker is currently exclusive to AT&T, which means that users on other carriers don't have access to these customization options at this point. Motorola is, however, expected to make Moto Maker available to other carriers as well soon, and Verizon might get it as early as next week.

Other than the neat voice functionality and customization features, the Motorola Moto X doesn't really shine in terms of specifications. It is a mid-range handset powered by a dual-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor clocked at 1.7GHz and paired with 2GB of RAM. It sports a 4.7-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, and comes in 16GB or 32GB internal storage configurations. The smartphone runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, with an update to the latest Android 4.4 KitKat expected in the near future.

Other specs include a 10-megapixel rear camera with auto focus and LED flash, as well as a 1.4-megapixel front-facing shooter for video chats. While the Moto X has decent specs and some cool functionality, its initial price tag was widely considered too high for a mid-range handset, especially when compared to higher-end flagship smartphones.

The new $99.99 price tag on a two-year contract seems more appropriate for the Moto X and will likely attract more buyers. To get the Verizon Moto X for $99.99 on a new two-year contract head here
