Sprint is one of the carriers to offer Google's latest Nexus 5 in the U.S., and the its version of the smartphone is now available for just $49.99 from Amazon.
Google has just recently launched its new flagship smartphone, the LG-made Nexus 5. While the handset is available from the Google Play Store as well, it is currently listed with a shipment date of three to four weeks, suggesting tightening initial supply.
Last year's Nexus 4 posed some serious stock issues, as both Google and LG were overwhelmed by demand and the smartphone was barely in stock. This year, carriers may make it a bit easier to get your hands on a Nexus 5 smartphone.
Sprint is offering the new Google Nexus 5 for $149.99 on a two-year contract, or $449.99 outright, without a lengthy agreement. Amazon is undercutting the carrier's price by offering the Sprint Nexus 5 for a considerably lower price, selling the smartphone for just $49.99 upon signing a two-year contract with Sprint.
The retailer is also offering the Nexus 5 off-contract for the same price as Sprint, i.e. $449.99 for the 16GB model. On the Google Play store, the smartphone costs $349.99 (full price, unsubsidized), but strong demand pushed back the shipment date. In other words, if you want to get the Nexus 5 off-contract from Sprint or Amazon, you would have to pay an extra $100 compared to the Google Play price for the same device. On the other hand, getting it sooner may be worth the extra cash for some.
As a reminder, the LG-made Google Nexus 5 comes with a 4.95-inch display with full HD 1080p resolution, the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.2GHz, 2GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), and 16GB or 32GB internal storage configurations. The Nexus 5 is the first device to run Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box, sporting some neat new features and functionality.
This is the first time that Sprint is carrying a Nexus device, and it should help the carrier attract more customers to its network. To get the Sprint Nexus 5 for $49.99 on a two-year contract with Sprint, head over to Amazon at this link.
