Alexandra Burlacu

Update: Samsung and AT&T have retrached the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for the Samsung Galaxy S4 due to software glitches. No current ETA is currently available as to when the update will start rolling out again.

Samsung Galaxy S4 owners on AT&T are in for some good news, as the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update is currently rolling out over the air (OTA).

Although its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S3, is facing some issues in getting the update too work properly in Europe, the AT&T Galaxy S4 upgrade process seems to be running smoothly.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is the company's new flagship smartphone, but users have been eagerly waiting for a software update to bring their handset more up to date. With the latest Android 4.4 KitKat barely rolling out to Nexus devices, which are always first on the list, Galaxy S4 users will have to do with the latest version of Jelly Bean for now.

AT&T has kicked off the long-awaited Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update on Thursday, Nov. 14. According to users who have taken to the XDA Developers Forum to report on the update, the OTA package weighs in at 719MB.

Android 4.3 Jelly Bean will bring several neat new features and improvements to the Galaxy S4, including support for Samsung's Galaxy Gear smartwatch, the Samsung KNOX security suite, and many more.

The new Android version will also bring along several improvements under the hood, such as support for OpenGL 3.0, support for the TRIM command that should accelerate flash storage, improved RAM management, as well as a slew of enhancements to Samsung's own apps.

The new Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update on AT&T will bring the firmware to number JSS15J.1337UCUEMJ9 and should give the handset a notable speed boost on all fronts.

As previously mentioned, the update is rolling out OTA now. If you have yet to receive the notification, you can check for the update's availability manually. To do so, access the phone's Settings, select About Device, go to Software Update and then select Check for updates. As always with OTA releases, the update is rolling out gradually, which means that it may take a while to reach all users.

Verizon, Sprint, and U.S. Cellular have already updated their versions of the Samsung Galaxy S4 to the latest Jelly Bean flavor. With AT&T now joining the party, T-Mobile is the last of the major carriers with a pending Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update, but it is expected to start rolling out the new firmware early next week.
