HTC is on top of Android 4.4 KitKat, as the company has already delivered an update for the HTC One Developer Edition to Google.
Just weeks after the official launch of the latest Android 4.4 KitKat, companies are already busy planning updates for their flagship devices. HTC was one of the first phone manufacturers to announce update plans for its devices, and now the company has already sent Google an update for the Google Play Edition for the HTC One.
"Good news, we've delivered KitKat code to Google for HTC One GPE. Timing of push via PlayStore to be determined by Google," HTC announced on Twitter.
This means that it is now in Google's hands to approve the update and start pushing it out to the HTC One Developer Edition.
Considering that this update is for the Developer Edition of the HTC One, however, it shouldn't take long to roll out. The whole point of Developer Edition versions of flagship devices is to pack a stock version of the Android software that would facilitate the update process.
Samsung has a Developer Edition of its Galaxy S4 flagship smartphone as well, but the company is yet to announce an update to Android 4.4 KitKat. The Samsung Galaxy S4 Developer Edition is expected to get the new software soon nonetheless. The latest version of Android should roll out to Google's Nexus lineup first, followed by Developer Edition devices. Only after these devices get their updates the new software will start reaching other devices as well.
Aside from the HTC One Developer Edition, HTC has also announced that Android 4.4 KitKat is set to roll out to the SIM unlocked versions of the HTC One later this month. The update will then roll out to the HTC One on all U.S. carriers, including Verizon Wireless, AT&T and T-Mobile.
It seems that HTC is eager to deliver the latest software to its customers, but it now remains to be seen how long Google will take to approve the update and start pushing it out to device owners.
