Google just announced a new "holiday special," offering a special deal when purchasing a new Nexus 7 from the Google Play store in the U.S. or Canada.
For a "limited time," customers who purchase a new Nexus 7 on Google Play will get free shipping, as well as a $25 Google Play gift card. The company did not mention for how long this promotion will be available, but it will likely expire by the end of the year.
"Let the holidays begin! Starting today, for a limited time, when you buy a Nexus 7, you'll receive $25 in Google Play Credit and free shipping: US and CA," reads Google's announcement.
As a reminder, the new Google Nexus 7 (2013) has the same 7.02-inch display size as the original model, but features a higher resolution of 1920 x 1200 with a pixel density of 323 pixels per inch (ppi). Under the hood, the second-generation Nexus 7 packs a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor clocked at 1.5GHz, paired with Adreno 320 graphics and 2GB of RAM.
Other specs of the new Nexus 7 include a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 1.2-megapixel front shooter. Connectivity options include NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, and 4G LTE. The tablet also supports wireless charging using a Qi-compatible charger.
The Nexus 7 (2013) is also the first device to rock the latest version of OpenGL ES 3.0 for accelerated graphics, allowing the slate to achieve higher frame rates compared to other devices packing the same processor.
The second-generation Nexus 7 comes in three choices: 16GB Wi-Fi-only, 32GB Wi-Fi-only, and 32GB 4G LTE. It's worth noting, however, that the latter has yet to receive certification to work on Verizon's LTE network.
With the holiday shopping season just around the corner, you can expect to see all sorts of enticing deals pop up for all kinds of devices. The Nexus 7 will most likely not be left out of promotional deals, and you may find it cheaper somewhere other than Google Play. If you do purchase the new Nexus 7 from Google's store, however, you can enjoy $25 worth of Google Play credit to go with your tablet.
