BlackBerry has slashed the price of the unlocked BlackBerry Z10 in the U.S., offering the smartphone for just $199 with free shipping.
Just recently retailer Carphone Warehouse cut the price of the SIM-free BlackBerry Z10 in the UK, and now it seems that the lower price tag for the unlocked handset is available in the U.S. as well, directly from BlackBerry.
It's worth mentioning, however, that the SIM-free BlackBerry Z10 will only work with GSM carriers AT&T and T-Mobile in the U.S., not on CDMA networks such as Verizon's. The offer is for a limited-time only, and works with a special coupon code.
As a reminder, the BlackBerry Z10 is the first handset to launch with the company's new BlackBerry 10 (BB10) operating system. It sports a 4.2-inch touchscreen display with a resplution of 1280 x 768 pixels, and packs a 1.5GHz dual-core processor with 2GB of RAM under the hood. The smartphone comes with 16GB of internal storage capacity and also has a microSD card slot for additional memory.
Other specs of the BlackBerry Z10 include an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing shooter, a 1,800 mAh battery and the BB 10 OS, with an upgrade to BB 10.2 expected in the coming months.
BlackBerry is still trying to turn things around in an increasingly competitive smartphone market, after losing significant ground to its Android and iOS rivals. Even the Windows Phone platform is rising at a steady pace, while BlackBerry is struggling to keep its head above the water.
The all-touch BlackBerry 10 stirred some interest at first, but ultimately failed to see the success the company likely hoped for. The new price cuts for the unlocked BlackBerry Z10 aim to attract more customers and boost sales of the handset.
Keep in mind that this is a limited-time offer, set to expire on Dec. 2. If you want to get the unlocked, SIM-free BlackBerry Z10 for $199 just use the coupon code "BFEMAILZ10" at checkout.
The BlackBerry Z10 may not be the highest-end smartphone on the market, but this new price tag for the unlocked model may help lure more buyers. On the other hand, Android fans can get better hardware with the unlocked Moto G for a lower price, so it remains to be seen whether BlackBerry will manage to boost sales of its not-so-popular Z10.
