Motorola has announced that the latest Android 4.4 KitKat is now rolling out to the Moto X on Sprint and U.S. Cellular.
The Moto X running on Verizon Wireless, AT&T, or T-Mobile's networks has received a software update to Android 4.4 KitKat back in November.
The U.S. Cellular version of the Moto X started to receive the update just over a week ago, but Motorola has announced both the Sprint and U.S. Cellular Moto X updates in a single update on Thursday, Dec. 12.
The update brings several bug fixes and improvements, as well as some new features.
Notable improvements with the new Android version include a better phone dialer, which now allows users to search for contacts directly from the dial-pad itself. The new Android 4.4 also makes it easier to find frequently-called contacts in the dial-pad.
The official Motorola Camera application also benefits from bug fixes and new features. The app now has support for some additional languages and allows users to lock exposure when trying to take a photo in panorama mode. Moreover, users can also control the camera's exposure and focus.
The Moto X Android 4.4 KitKat update further features a new Hangouts application, now placing all texts, chats, and video calls in a single place pre-loaded on the software. Users will now also be able to send animated GIFs and share their location through the app.
The update also brings along a new Gallery application, which now features various effects such as Posterize, Highlights, Edges, and a Draw feature that allows users to annotate photos using their fingers.
Other changes and additions include a full-screen mode, some colorful characters added to the Google Keyboard, improved Touchless Controls, new status and navigation bars, and more.
As for the Moto X itself, the smartphone has proved to be quite popular with consumers. The handset comes with a 4.7-inch 720p HD display, a dual-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB/32GB of internal storage capacity. Camera capabilities include a 10-megapixel rear shooter and a 2-megapixel front camera. The main attraction point, however, is the Moto X' unprecedented customization options. The speedy software update is an added bonus.
Android 4.4 KitKat has only rolled out to a handful of devices so far. Each new Android version generally rolls out to the Nexus lineup first, then Google Play editions of devices, with other devices to follow afterwards. In this case, the Moto X was privileged to get the new Android version so soon.
