The Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 is now available for just $49.99 from Amazon when signing a new two-year contract with the carrier.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is the company's current flagship smartphone and is widely considered one of the best handsets of 2013. Galaxy devices in general are very popular with consumers, but the Galaxy S4 stirred quite some interest.

The smartphone packs high-end specs and features and is one of the best-selling handsets of this year. All four major U.S. carriers - AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Sprint, and T-Mobile - are currently selling the Galaxy S4, but the Verizon version is now up for a nice discount on Amazon.

As a reminder, the Samsung Galaxy S4 comes with some neat specs, starting with a 5-inch full HD Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080, a pixel density of 441 pixels per inch (ppi) and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Under the hood, the smartphone boasts a powerful quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor clocked at 1.9GHz and paired with 2GB of RAM.

The handset also sports a high-end 13-megapixel rear camera with auto flash, zero shutter lag, and full HD video recording capabilities at 30fps, as well as a 2-megapixel front shooter. Wireless connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, and 4G LTE. The Galaxy S4 ships with a large 2,600 mAh removable battery.

With the holidays just around the corner, companies are trying to attract as many customers as possible with heavy discounts on popular products. Smartphones and tablets are usually seeing higher sales figures during the holiday shopping season, and price cuts aim to boost sales even further.

While high-end devices generally come with a price to match, Amazon is now offering the 16GB Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 for just $49.99 when signing a new two-year contract with the carrier. As usual, free two-day shipping is also available with the order.

The smartphone appears as "in stock" at the time of writing, but such discounts are typically not available for long. If you're interested in the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4, you might want to take advantage of this offer while it lasts.
