Motorola is doing some more teasing for the Moto X wooden back customizations it previously promised, suggesting that the option may finally become available soon.
The Moto X is a highly-customizable handset, offering unparalleled and unprecedented customization options. Users can personalize the appearance of the smartphone by choosing the color of the front and back covers, as well as accent colors, with over 2,000 possible combinations.
Motorola had also touted wood back customization options for the smartphone, but the Moto X has been out for a good while now and the wooden covers are still not available. The company has now decided to do some more teasing, suggesting that this may change very soon.
With Christmas just around the corner, it now seems that the Moto X with a wooden back is ready to make its debut. Motorola has taken to its official Twitter account to indicate an imminent launch.
"Put this DIY project on hold. Trust us," reads a brief message from Motorola. The teaser image shows a wooden plank with a Moto X shape outlined on it, ready to be cut out.
Previous leaks have suggested an imminent launch for the Moto X wood back covers, but no official availability date is available for now. Motorola's new teaser, however, indicates that the wood backs could arrive any time now on the Moto Maker customization service.
The much-touted Moto X wooden back covers are expected to come in several color options, including shades of teak, bamboo, rosewood, and ebony. It remains unclear at this point whether these customizations will come at an extra cost.
Aside from the advanced customization options it offers, the Moto X is a mid-range handset with decent specifications. The smartphone sports a 4.7-inch HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, a dual-core Snapdragon processor clocked at 1.7GHz, and 2GB of RAM. Other specs include 16GB or 32GB of internal storage capacity, and a 10-megapixel ClearPixel camera with LED flash, HDR, auto focus, face detection, and Panorama.
The Moto X may not boast high-end specifications, but it definitely stands out from the crowd due to the Moto Maker customization options. With the wood back covers now expected to arrive soon, the smartphone will likely become even more attractive. All carriers are expected to offer the Moto X wood back customization.
