The Samsung Galaxy S5 will reportedly pack a Quad HD screen, as well as fingerprint and eye scanners among other high-end specs.
The next-generation Galaxy flagship smartphone has started to leak more extensively, and the latest report claims that some exciting new features are in the cards.
According to a new report from ZDNet Korea, Samsung is gearing up to take things to the next level with its upcoming Galaxy S5, looking to pack Quad HD (QHD) and iris scanning technology, in addition to fingerprint sensors. A QHD display has a whopping resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, i.e. the same resolution of a large 27-inch Apple iMac.
With such a high pixel count packed onto a smartphone display, the Samsung Galaxy S5 would boast an incredible pixel density. While the screen size remains uncertain at this point, Samsung will likely keep it below 5.5 inches so it wouldn't be too similar to its Galaxy Note series.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 is expected to sport some notable improvements over the current Galaxy S4, including a long-awaited metal design instead of the plastic body found on Galaxy smartphones so far.
According to another report from BGR, Samsung may release a Galaxy S5 standard model that would have a plastic body, but also a high-end variant that would rock a metal design. The publication further notes that the next-generation Galaxy flagship is expected to pack a 64-bit processor, a hefty 3GB of RAM and a large 4,000 mAh battery.
If ZDNet Korea's report proves to be accurate, the Samsung Galaxy S5 will also feature both fingerprint sensors and iris scanners for extra security. Considering that Samsung has already integrated eye-tracking technology into the Galaxy S4, the idea of adding such tech to boost security does not seem too farfetched.
Samsung has yet to make an official announcement regarding its next-generation flagship, but ZDNet expects the Galaxy S5 to make its debut at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014. If Samsung does unveil the Galaxy S5 at the show in February, the smartphone could launch as early as March 2014.
As always with rumors and speculations, however, take everything with a grain of salt until official confirmation.
