Rumors about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5 have been intensifying lately and a new report from the Korean media now hints at the smartphone's screen size.
The next-generation Galaxy flagship smartphone has been the star of various rumors recently and is expected to launch with great improvements over the current Galaxy S4 flagship.
As the expected unveiling of the smartphone draws closer, reports about the device are starting to intensify. A new production rumor now hints at the device's display size.
According to a new report (translated) from the Korean media, Samsung has started to mass-produce 5.25-inch AMOLED displays for its next-generation Galaxy S5 powerhouse. The displays reportedly boast a QHD resolution of 2,560 x 1,440, which would translate to a whopping pixel density of 560 pixels per inch. This falls in line with previous reports pointing to a QHD display.
Other previous rumors have also claimed that Samsung would be shifting from Super AMOLED to new PLS LCD screens. On the other hand, there have also been whispers that the company may come up with two different versions of the Galaxy S5. None of these reports have been confirmed, however, and it is always best to take all speculation with a healthy dose of skepticism until Samsung makes an official announcement.
According to rumors so far, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is expected to pack other high-end specs as well, including a 16-megapixel rear camera, a new 64-bit processor and at least 3GB of RAM. Previous reports also hinted towards a metal chassis, as well as fingerpring and eye-scanning technology. The new display will also reportedly feature a diamond-shaped pixel setup, which would allegedly allow for increased pixel density and sharpness.
While this is just another rumor, the alleged 5.25-inch screen size for the purported Samsung Galaxy S5 does fall in line with Samsung's strategy so far. Historically, Samsung gradually increased the screen size of both its Galaxy S flagship smartphones and the Galaxy Note series. The current Galaxy S4 saw an increase in screen size from 4.8 inches to 5 inches, while the Galaxy Note 3 expanded from 5.5 inches to 5.7 inches. If the Galaxy S5 would have a bigger display, it would cross over to Galaxy Note territory.
As previously mentioned, however, this is all in the rumor state for now. Samsung has made no official announcement regarding its next-generation flagship smartphone, and the Galaxy S5 specs are just speculation at this point. Until official confirmation, take all leaks, rumors, and reports with a hefty grain of salt.
