The LG G2 flagship is reportedly facing disappointing sales because consumers are favoring the Google Nexus 5, as the two devices launched too close to each other.
LG really stepped up its game this year and delivered its new flagship in the form of the G2, a high-end smartphone with a unique design. The company also made the new Nexus 5 for Google, and apparently that's what's hurting sales of the LG G2.
The company designed its LG G2 with top-notch specifications and skillfully designed it to be comfortable for one-handed use despite its big display. LG moved the volume rocker and power button to the rear of the device to make it easier to handle, referring to this new design as the "rear key concept."
Earlier this month, a report suggested that the LG G2 failed to meet the company's sales expectations. LG reportedly sold 2.3 million units of its flagship in four months, which was way below its target.
A new report from Digitimes now seems to bolster that claim and alleges that the launch of the Google Nexus 5 was too close to the LG G2. As a result, the Nexus 5 affected the sales of the G2, the publication reportedly learned from its sources.
"LG originally projected to sell 10 million units of its Optimus G2 flagship model in 2013, but global sales so far reached slightly over two million units, the observers noted," reports Digitimes. "The release of the G2 was too close to the launch of the Nexus 5, which affected sales momentum of LG's own flagship model, added the sources."
The LG-made Nexus 5 comes with similar specs to the LG G2, but it sports some notable differences as well in terms of camera and performance. The Nexus 5 packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of internal storage capacity, and runs Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box. Other specs of the Nexus 5 include a 4.95-inch full HD display, an 8-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 1.3-megapixel front shooter, and a 2,300 mAh battery.
The LG G2, meanwhile, boasts a larger 5.2-inch ful HD IPS display, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage capacity. The new LG flagship comes with a higher-end 13-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and LED flash, as well as a more powerful 3,000 mAh battery.
In other words, the LG G2 has some specs that are higher-end compared to the Nexus 5, but price also has a big say in a device's popularity. The Nexus 5 costs significantly less than the LG G2, not to mention that it comes with the Nexus experience, which guarantees timely updates as soon as a new version of Android comes out.
The Nexus 5 is surely more popular than the LG G2, as it has seen great demand since its launch. On the other hand, that doesn't necessarily mean that this report is true and the Nexus 5 is affecting sales of the LG G2.
