The Wi-Fi version of the Sony Xperia Tablet Z is now finally getting a taste of the latest Jelly Bean flavor.
A short while ago Sony started to roll out the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for several of its high-end devices, including the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, and the Xperia Tablet Z. When it comes to the latter device, however, Android 4.3 rolled out only for the LTE model (model number SGP321), leaving owners of the Wi-Fi version out of the loop.
The Wi-Fi-only Sony Xperia Tablet Z (model numbers SGP311 and SGP312) is now finally joining the party, as an update to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean has started to roll out over the air (OTA).
"We can now report that the update is now live for the Wi-Fi tablets, which updates the Xperia Tablet Z (SGP311/SGP312) to Android 4.3 with build number 10.4.B.0.577," the Xperia Blog reports.
The new update, as expected, will bring along the slew of goodies that Android 4.3 has to offer, as well as many other features from Sony. The Xperia Tablet Z will get a new home launcher reminiscent of the one found on the Xperia Z1, some neat "Xperia Theme" support, Sony Smart Social camera, the ability to launch several Small Apps, a new version of battery STAMINA mode designed to increase battery performance, and Restricted Profiles for multiple users.
With Android 4.4 KitKat out and about, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean is no longer the very latest version of Android, but this update is still a notable improvement for Sony Xperia Tablet Z owners.
As previously mentioned, the new update to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean is rolling out over the air. Sony Xperia Tablet Z owners will be able to get the update only using the Sony PC Companion or the Sony Update Service (SUS). As always with OTAs, the update is rolling out gradually, in phases, which means that it may take some time for it to reach all devices. The rollout availability will vary with different markets, but it's coming nonetheless. If you already got the update, drop by our comment section below to let us know how it fares.
