The next-generation Google Nexus 10 has been very elusive, but a new report now claims that the tablet will make its debut at CES 2014.
Google released a second generation of its popular Nexus 7 tablet, as well as a new Nexus 5 smartphone in 2013, leaving everyone wondering where the new Nexus 10 was. With 2013 now gone and no sign of a refresh for the larger-sized Nexus tablet, the rumor mill is now looking at CES 2014 as a potential venue for the new Nexus 10's unveiling.
The Nexus 10 starred in various rumors throughout the past year, and different reports claimed that different companies were put in charge of manufacturing the tablet. There were also various whispers trying to anticipate a launch date, but none of those prove to be correct so far. Some reports, for instance, claimed that Google would release its new Nexus 10 in time for Cyber Monday, but that obviously did not happen.
A new report from DigiTimes now claims that Samsung is still in charge of the Nexus 10 refresh, and the tablet will made its debut at the CES 2014 trade show in Las Vegas. This year's CES kicks off in less than a week, starting on Jan. 7 and running through Jan. 10. While many companies have already done some teasing on what they will be showing off at CES 2014, neither Samsung, nor Google, nor some other company made any mention of the Nexus 10.
It's worth pointing out that DigiTimes has a very mixed track record when it comes to the accuracy of its leaks. The publication is often times hit-and-miss, but has also proved to be correct on several occasions.
The DigiTimes report further mentions several new tablets that are reportedly due to debut at CES, including a new Lenovo Yoga tablet and a dual-boot (Windows 8.1/ Android) ASUS device. Lenovo has already announced plans to unveil smartphones at CES 2014, but made no mention of a new Yoga tablet. This doesn't mean, however, that it will not unveil more than smartphones.
As for the Nexus 10, it's very difficult to determine at this point which reports are accurate and which are false. Some previous rumors have indicated that this time ASUS would be the one to built the Nexus 10, not Samsung, while others said it would be made by LG. The new DigiTimes report points again at Samsung as the manufacturer, and also notes that the tablet could sport an AMOLED display with the same pixel resolution as its predecessor.
With nothing announced or confirmed for now, it is highly advisable to take all such reports with a big grain of salt. If DigiTimes does prove to be correct and the Nexus 10 will make an appearance at this year's CES, we'll know all about it in just a few days. Stay tuned for more information as soon as it becomes available.
