Acer has announced to new budget Android tablets: the $130 Iconia B1-720 and the $180 Iconia A1-830, both set to debut next week at CES 2014.
Ahead of the big CES 2014 frenzy, Acer has unveiled plans to launch several new products at the trade show. The two Iconia tablets are among the new devices and they aim to cater to budget-conscious shoppers looking for an Android tablet.
The new Acer Iconia B1-720 sports a 7-inch screen and comes at a very affordable price point of $130. As expected for this price, the Iconia B1-720 is a basic tablet, but it is faster than its predecessor. The slate packs a dual-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage capacity, and a microSD card slot for additional memory of up to 32GB. The display supports 10-point multitouch and the tablet also features front-facing speakers and a front camera, with no rear shooter.
To launch a tablet for just $130, however, Acer did have to sacrifice a few aspects. The battery life, for instance, will last for only up to five hours, and the operating system will be Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean rather than one of the newer versions of the OS (Android 4.3 Jelly Bean or Android 4.4 KitKat).
The new Iconia A1-830, meanwhile, is the more advanced of the two. The tablet sports a 7.9-inch IPS display, packs an Intel Atom processor under the hood, and promises up to 7.5 hours of battery life.
The tablet sports an LED-backlit IPS display with a resolution of 1025 x 768 pixels and packs an Intel Atom Z2560 Clover Trail+ processor. It comes with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage capacity, with a microSD card slot for up to 32GB of additional memory.
This model also features both front- and rear-facing cameras, as well as stereo speakers. The company plans to offer accessories as well for its new Acer Iconia A1-830, including a "Crunch Keyboard" built into a faux-leather case, and a "Crunch Cover" that's made of microfiber and doubles as a tablet stand.
The Acer Iconia B1-720 is expected to launch in mid-January in North America for $130, while the A1-830 should make its debut during the first quarter of 2014 in North America for $180 and up.
