Samsung has acknowledged that the issues with Galaxy Note 3 accessories are in fact related to the update to Android 4.4 KitKat, and promised to provide a fix soon.
Just recently, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 received an update to Android 4.4 KitKat, but shortly after that many users started to report issues with third-party accessories. More specifically, users complained that the update disabled some unofficial accessories for the phablet.
Third-party S-View cases, for instance, were supposed to activate a special screen mode when closed. Although said accessories reportedly worked fine at first, the Galaxy Note 3 no longer recognized them after the update.
At the time, Samsung said that it had found no correlation between the Android 4.4 KitKat update and the reported incompatibility with said third-party accessories, and advised users to buy official Samsung accessories to avoid such issues.
As it turns out, there actually was a connection and Samsung has now acknowledged that the update did cause the issues with Galaxy Note 3 accessories.
"We have currently identified a software compatibility issue with the Galaxy Note 3 update to Android 4.4 (KitKat) and select 3rd party accessories," Samsung reckoned in a statement to Ars Technica. "We are committed to offering a diverse and reliable mobile experience for all customers, providing continued support and solutions for any issues that arise with product updates for both Samsung manufactured and third-party accessories."
Samsung further said that it will provide an update to fix the reported issues with third-party accessories, but the company did not provide any release date for this fix. The good news is that a solution is on its way, and it will likely fix all issues.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has enjoyed a tremendous success since its launch, selling better than any of its predecessors. The phablet comes with top-of-the-line specs and features that any phablet fan would appreciate, and the update to the latest Android 4.4 KitKat brought along several neat improvements despite the few issues it has caused with unofficial accessories.
