The HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat software update is facing some slight delays and will take a couple more weeks tops to roll out.
Just a few days ago we reported that the Android 4.4 KitKat update for the HTC One had reached the certification stage for the four major U.S. carriers - Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile.
The update was expected to start rolling out shortly, but HTC has now issued a new statement saying that the update for the U.S. HTC One will miss the company's deadline, as it is facing a slight delay.
HTC initially said that U.S. versions of its flagship HTC One would get a taste of Android 4.4 KitKat within 90 days, which meant the end of January. With the month almost over, the new timeline now extends toward mid-February.
"As we approach the 90-day mark, we are getting closer to delivering KitKat and the finish line is becoming more clear," HTC president Jason Mackenzie explained in the statement. "We are currently in the certification phase across all of our carrier partners in North America, and they share our enthusiasm for getting this software in your hands."
"That said, the software development process does not always follow a linear path and we know today that we will miss our self-imposed target. The good news is that we won't miss by much, as it shouldn't be more than one to two weeks to complete each of the carrier versions of the HTC One."
While this may disappoint some HTC One users eager to get the Android 4.4 KitKat update as soon as possible, the good news is that it's not a big delay. Although the update will not arrive as soon as originally estimated, the U.S. versions of the HTC One will get their update soon.
Even with the slight delay, the company is worth appreciating for its transparency in regards to its update process. HTC has provided details about the updates on a regular basis, and has even set up a website to offer more information.
Mackenzie further said that HTC has learned from this challenge and this experience will help the company improve its upgrade deliveries in the future. The statement further emphasizes that supporting customers is a "major priority" for HTC.
