A new Samsung Windows Phone 8.1 device has leaked online, sporting a Galaxy-like design, a large display and Verizon branding.
Samsung's hasn't released any new Windows Phone smartphones in a good while, but recent rumors suggested that the company may be getting ready to return to Microsoft's platform with some more handsets.
A new leak now bolsters such claims, showing a Samsung-made smartphone allegedly running Windows Phone 8.1, and featuring Verizon branding at the top. The information comes from well-known tipster @evleaks, who has proved to be accurate with numerous leaks in the past.
"Windows Phone 8.1-powered Samsung SM-W750V 'Huron' for Verizon Wireless," reads the brief tweet from @evleaks.
While previous Samsung Windows Phone devices didn't really offer much in terms of design, at least not compared to Nokia's beautiful and colorful Lumia line, this purported Samsung Huron apparently features a Galaxy-like form factor. The leaked image shows a design that would fit somewhere between the Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy S4, which would be a major improvement for Samsung's Windows Phone lineup.
It remains unclear at this point whether this device would launch as a Verizon Wireless exclusive, or whether Verizon would be just one of the carriers who will offer the smartphone.
The Samsung SM-W750V was also spotted at the Bluetooth SIG back in mid-January, and previous reports suggested that the smartphone would feature a 5-inch full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The purported Samsung Huron is also rumored to come with 4G LTE. No details have surfaced yet regarding the smartphone's processor.
With the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014 coming up, this Windows Phone 8.1 smartphone from Samsung may become official by the end of the month. Samsung is also expected to unveil its next-generation Galaxy S5 flagship later this month, and the company has just announced that it will be holding an "Unpacked 5" event on Feb. 24 in Barcelona. The event may serve as a venue for the unveiling of several new devices, including the Galaxy S5, a second-generation Galaxy Gear and possibly this purported Samsung Huron Windows Phone 8.1 device for Verizon Wireless.
We'll stay on top of the MWC 2014 and we'll make sure to keep you up to date with all the latest news, so stay tuned. In the meantime, take everything with a grain of salt.
