The LG G Flex curved-display smartphone is headed to Canada, where it will soon launch as a Rogers exclusive.
The device has support for Rogers' LTE services and will make its debut on the carrier's network sometime this spring, but no specific launch date is available at this point. The carrier also has yet to release pricing details for the curvy handset, but the G Flex expected to sport quite a hefty price tag.
"As the first curved smartphone on the Canadian market, the LG G Flex is cutting-edge from the inside out, offering Rogers customers a unique smartphone experience," Ross Snow, vice-president of Mobile Communications at LG Canada, touted in the press release. "The LG G Flex further establishes LG as a premium brand with a product that is poised to reinvigorate excitement in the smartphone category for 2014."
"Rogers customers always have access to the latest and greatest smartphones, and we look forward to bringing them a new device experience with the LG G Flex," added John Boynton, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at Rogers Communications. "The LG G Flex will reach its full potential on our LTE network, offering customers blazing fast speeds that keep them connected and entertained."
The Rogers-exclusive LG G Flex version will not bring any differences in terms of specs, but its support for both 2100MHz and 2600MHz spectrums should help it reach maximum theoretical download speeds of up to 150Mbps.
For those unfamiliar with the device, the LG G Flex features a curved body that arches from top to bottom. It sports a large 6-inch curved P-OLED display, a 2.26GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage capacity. Other specs include a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 2.1-megapixel front shooter, and a 3,500 mAh battery.
In addition to its curved display, the LG G Flex also comes with another innovative feature: a self-healing back plate. The handset's rear coating will automatically fill in small scratches and scuffs that normally occur with daily use, but it will not recover from large, deep scratches or more serious damage.
The LG G Flex ships with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on board and also has some neat software features, including QTheatre, Dual Window, and Swing Lockscreen to help maximize the curved display's potential.
Although no exact launch date is available at this point, interested buyers in Canada can now reserve the LG G Flex through Roger's reservation system at this link.
