Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet debuts as ‘world’s thinnest and lightest waterproof tablet' (VIDEO)

The Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet made its official debut at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014, launching as "the world's thinnest and lightest waterproof tablet."

The MWC 2014 trade show has already kicked off in full force, with several manufacturers showing off their latest and greatest products. Sony unveiled a number of new devices, including the Xperia Z2 smartphone, the mid-range Xperia M2, and the Xperia Z2 Tablet.

According to the company, its new Xperia Z2 Tablet is the thinnest and lightest full-size waterproof tablet on the market, and it boasts some high-end specs and features to go along with its neat design.

"The Xperia Z2 Tablet represents the pinnacle of tablet innovation and is a true flagship in our premium line. We have evolved our cutting-edge design to create the slimmest lightweight tablet matched with Sony's latest technologies to deliver a unique user experience," Sony Mobile Communications President and CEO Kunimasa Suzuki touted the press release. "And with our new range of dedicated accessories, you can further now enhance your tablet experience whether for work or play, at home or on the go."

Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet Specs

In terms of specifications, the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet comes with a 10.1-inch full HD Triluminos display for mobile with Live Colour LED2, powered by X-Reality for mobile engine. The tablet packs a quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.3GHz, paired with Adreno 330 graphics and 3GB of RAM. Compared to the original Xperia Tablet Z that came with a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU, the new iteration sports notable improvements under the hood.

Other specs include an 8.1 megapixel rear camera and a 2.2-megapixel front shooter, IP55/58 certification for dust- and water-resistance, and a 6,000 mAh battery. The Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet further comes with optional 4G LTE support and features Quick Charge 2.0 technology that allows for 75 percent faster charging. The tablet ships with Android 4.4 KitKat on board and will be available in black or white color options.

Sony has yet to announce the exact release date or pricing details for its new Xperia Z2 Tablet, but the company said it would hit store shelves worldwide from March 2014. In the meantime, check out the video below to see the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet in action.
