The much-rumored Sony Xperia Z2 is finally official, as Sony stormed the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014 with exciting news.
The company has officially taken the wraps off its new flagship smartphone, the Sony Xperia Z2, which comes as "the world's best camera and camcorder in a waterproof smartphone."
"With the Xperia Z2 we have taken our premium Z series to the next level, delivering unique experiences that only Sony can offer," Kunimasa Suzuki, President and CEO of Sony Mobile Communications, touted in the press release. "We have redefined the smartphone once again through our camera. Xperia Z2 offers an innovative experience that captures memories in stunning detail through 4K video shooting, or offers new ways to use the camera with our unique Xperia camera apps. Furthermore, the Best of Sony has been delivered in the sound quality and customers are now able to listen to their music even in noisy environments without interruptions thanks to our acclaimed digital noise cancelling technology."
Sony Xperia Z2 Specs
In terms of specifications, the new Sony flagship smartphone sports a 5.2-inch full HD Triluminos display for mobile with Live Color LED powered by X-Reality for mobile picture engine.
Under the hood, the new Sony Xperia Z2 packs a powerful quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor paired with Adreno 330 graphics and a hefty 3GB of RAM, which should make it notably faster than its predecessor, the Xperia Z1.
Other specs include a 20-megapixel camera with 4K video recording capabilities, a 2-megapixel front shooter, 16GB of internal storage capacity, microSD card slot for additional memory, 4G LTE support, and IP55/58 certification for dust-and water-resistance. The smartphone further features a large 3,200 mAh battery with Sony's Stamina Mode, which is designed to automatically turn off unnecessary functions while the display is inactive in order to save power and maximize battery efficiency. On the software side, the Sony Xperia Z2 rocks Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box.
Sony has yet to offer an exact launch date or pricing details for its new Xperia Z2 flagship waterproof smartphone, but said that a global release will start in March 2014. In the meantime, check out the video below for more details.
