“The Vampire Diaries” Season 8 featured yet another major death in its most recent episode. As all of the viewers witnessed, Enzo St. John died in the hands of Stefan. The character that Paul Wesley plays ripped out his heart and his face turned gray.

Fortunately for Michael Malarkey’s fans, it would appear that “The Vampire Diaries” Season 8 showrunners have something else planned for his character. He might have already died, but the actor has, once again, “gone in and done a couple of bits here and there” following his on-screen death.

“It is nice to be able to wrap this thing up the way they have done it, to know this is the end and to do it justice,” Malarkey told TV Line. Apparently, he knew that he was going to be killed off of the show pretty soon. “I kind of knew it was coming,” he added. “I was prepared for either way it would go.”

It remains unclear how Enzo re-enters the plot of “The Vampire Diaries” Season 8. Prior to his demise, Enzo was helping Bonnie in her fight against Cade. “His role is for her psychological support and really being there for her and helping her regain her own strength and fight as strongly as she can,” he told TV Guide.

It is possible that “The Vampire Diaries” Season 8 showrunners could have marriage in mind for Bonnie and Enzo. After all, he did previously reveal that marriage with Kat Graham’s Bonnie is “something he has been thinking about it.” How this could possibly play into his post-death story arc remains unclear and unconfirmed.

Now that Malarkey has confirmed that he will be back for “The Vampire Diaries” Season 8 finale on March 10, he also hinted that other “familiar faces” will be making a comeback as well. “There is blood, sweat, and tears, and also a little bit of joy,” he added. “There is going to be a lot of tears shed, I am sure.”
