Anne Rice Reveals Her Plans For 'Vampire Chronicles' TV Series [Spoilers]

S. Turla

Anne Rice, the renowned author of "Vampire Chronicles," released the 14th novel in the series last year, titled "Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis." In 2016, the author also announced that the book series featuring the vampire Lestat will soon be made into a television series.

During an interview with Nerdist, Anne Rice talked about her latest book, the upcoming "Vampire Chronicles" show and other topics such as modern feminism. "Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis" explored sci-fi themes, compared to the other "Vampire Chronicles" novels that were rooted in traditional fantasy. Rice shared that readers loved her newest book, but a handful weren't too pleased with the introduction of the "Atlantis mythology."

She shared, "However it is clear that the negative reviews largely come from people who do not care for the inclusion of the Atlantis mythology or the story of alien influence on Earth. There were bound to be some who simply would not like this. But again, overall the response has been remarkably positive."

The last few years have seen several franchises take on reboots such as "Twin Peaks" and "Alien," and the author shared that for her part, she returned to her hit book franchise because she missed writing about Lestat.

Riche said, "I felt the need, after a long hiatus, to return to Lestat. I missed him. He came alive for me again. He began to speak again." The author added that she stopped writing about Lestat "during a period of grief and sadness in 2002-3," but as the years had passed, Rice wanted to return to the world of vampires to see how they will adapt to "the modern world."

The author also shared that she and her son Christopher Rice, who is also a writer, are "planning to produce" a "Vampire Chronicles" TV show. When asked about her plans for the upcoming show, Rice replied that she wants to "deliver The Vampire Lestat to viewers in a way that has never been done." She plans to do this by fully exploring Lestat's birth as "as a supernatural hero, a brave, rebellious young man who refuses to become a victim, no matter what life does to him."

While there was already an "Interview with the Vampire" film, which starred Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, and a young Kirsten Dunst, fans can rest assured that the upcoming "Vampire Chronicles" TV series will feature a season dedicated to Louis de Pointe du Lac and how he became a vampire, per Bloody Disgusting.
