LG is preparing to enter the Windows 8 hybrid laptop market with the Tab-Book. The company plans to showcase this device at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona later in 2013.

The LG Tab-Book aims to go up against the Microsoft Surface Pro by coming equipped with an Intel Atom Z2760 Clover Trail processor, an IPS screen with 5-point multitouch and LTE for mobile Internet connection on the go. At first glance, the Tab-Book may appear just a simple tablet device; however, by pressing the auto slide-out button, a keyboard appears.

"The Tab-Book is going to appeal to consumers who want the convenience of a tablet but also the productivity of a notebook and don't want to carry two devices all the time," according to LG Senior Vice President Il-geun Kwon.

LG Tab-Book Specs:

  1. 11.6-inch touchscreen display
  2. Intel Atom Z2760 Clover Trail processor
  3. 2GB of RAM
  4. 64GB SSD
  5. 1.05kg in weight
  6. WiFi
  7. Bluetooth
  8. USB port
  9. HDMI port
  10. microSD

For those who feel compelled to purchase the LG Tab-Book, the device is available on Amazon for pre-order at the price of $1,395. Pretty expensive for a device that comes with a Clover Trail processor: Windows 8 users might be better off looking elsewhere. However, there will be a version of the Tab-Book with a Core i5 processor, likely to cost even more.

LG is well known for creating strong and sturdy computer devices, but they don't always look the best, design-wise. The Tab-Book will not win any design awards, but as long as LG can make it comfortable to use and rethink its price strategy, the device might find success.
