Surface Pro 2 now up to $200 off from Microsoft Store
Alexandra BurlacuThe Microsoft Surface Pro 2 tablet has just received substantial price cuts of up to $200, as the new-generation Surface Pro 3 is set to start shipping soon.
The recently unveiled Microsoft Surface Pro 3 slate has drawn plenty of interest upon its announcement, as it boasts high-end specs and features that make it a worthy contender in the top segment of the tablet market. As the Surface Pro 3 is getting ready for delivery, its predecessor now receives the expected price cuts, as customary in such cases.
More specifically, Microsoft is slashing $100 off some Surface Pro 2 models in the U.S., and as much as $200 off other models. The 64GB Surface Pro 2 with Intel Core i5 now costs $799 instead of $899, while the highest-end 512GB model is now $1,599 instead of the previous $1,799.
When it comes to the new Surface Pro 3, the latest tablet comes in two Core i5-based models, as well as Core i3 and Core i7 variants. When Microsoft started taking pre-orders for the Surface Pro 3 in the U.S. it listed the Core i5 tablet as shipping on June 20, which is also the date when these models will hit retail. The i3 and i7 models, meanwhile, are set to make a later debut, arriving in August.
The Surface Pro 3 is expected to be a successful product and see impressive sales, but it remains to be seen whether Microsoft has learned anything from the supply issues it faced with previous iterations. The company didn't do a very good job in assuring sufficient stock in the past, and some Surface tablets and their corresponding peripherals had trouble staying in stock.
Microsoft has delayed the shipping date for the 128GB Surface Pro 3 from June 20 to June 30, suggesting that the new-generation Surface Pro may face some supply issues as well. Meanwhile, the larger-capacity 265GB model of the tablet is still listed with a June 20 shipping date on the Microsoft Store.
As for the Surface Pro 2, the new price cuts are an indication that Microsoft is looking to get rid of inventory of the older slate. Upon unveiling the new Surface 3 last month, Surface chief Panos Panay mentioned that the company plans to stop making the Surface Pro 2 and gradually phase it out. The ARM-based Surface 2, however, is safe as the company has no plans to ditch this model (at least not for now).
If you'd like to purchase a Surface Pro 2 while you still have the chance, head over to the Microsoft Store at this link and take advantage of the new price cuts.
