HTC EYE smartphone en route with 5.2-inch full HD display, Snapdragon 801?
Alexandra BurlacuHTC is apparently cooking up a new device currently codenamed the "HTC EYE," according to some newly-leaked information.
The company has stirred quite some waves so far, most recently with the much-touted HTC One M8 for Windows smartphone. HTC is apparently not done, however, as a tipster now indicates that an HTC EYE smartphone is in the works and may make its debut soon.
Gadget leaker @upleaks has provided some information about the HTC EYE in a series of leaks over the past week, trying to paint a picture of what to expect. Not many details are available regarding the smartphone itself, but the tipster did offer some hints into what to expect.
According to @upleaks, the HTC EYE will come with a large 5.2-inch display with a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, which would translate to an impressive pixel density of 423 pixels per inch (ppi). The tipster further revealed that the smartphone will pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset, which means a quad-core processor clocked at 2.5GHz and an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit (GPU).
Moreover, the HTC EYE will reportedly pack a 13-megapixel duo camera system, which should deliver a high-end photography experience. The leaker offered no information regarding the operating system that will power this purported HTC EYE, but the handset may come with Microsoft's Windows Phone on board. On the other hand, with the Android L release just around the corner, the smartphone may boast the latest version of Google's OS.
The smartphone may also borrow many specs from the flagship HTC One M8, as the leaker said the hardware is "almost the same as original M8," but it remains unconfirmed at this point. In fact, none of these leaked specifications are confirmed yet, and HTC made no comment on plans to launch a new smartphone in the near future. The tipster also made no mention of design or build, so it's unclear whether the handset will be metal-clad or sport a polycarbonate body.
HTC already has powerful smartphones on the market, such as the One M8 and the One M8 for Windows, and it remains to be seen just what this purported HTC EYE will have to bring to the table. With no other details currently available and no official confirmation from HTC, it's all just an intriguing rumor for now. We'll keep you up to date as soon as more information pops up, but take everything with a grain of salt in the meantime.
