HTC Desire 612 hits Verizon Wireless on Oct. 9, free on-contract
Alexandra BurlacuThe HTC Desire 612 is ready to hit Verizon Wireless very soon, as the carrier just announced that it will start selling the device on Oct. 9.
Not too long ago, HTC fans got excited about the Desire 612's imminent launch on Big Red's network, as the handset was spotted inside a product manual on Verizon's website. Along with various leaks, including a press render of the HTC Desire 612 for Verizon, excitement was building up and now we have official confirmation.
Verizon Wireless has formally announced that it will start selling the HTC Desire 612 on Thursday, Oct. 9, as a budget-friendly device with impressive features for its category.
"The definition of an entry level smartphone has changed over the last few years. What once meant compromising quality is no longer the case with the new HTC Desire 612. An affordable smartphone with features you'd expect on a premium device - offered exclusively at Verizon," the carrier touts in a press release.
AT&S is already selling the HTC Desire 610, but the Desire 612 coming to Verizon is slightly different. In addition to minor changes in design, the HTC Desire 612 also comes with slightly better specifications compared to the Desire 610.
While the HTC Desire 610 came with a qHD resolution, the Desire 612 making its way to Verizon has a 4.7-inch display with an HD resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The rest of the specifications remain unchanged between the two devices, meaning a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 8GB of internal storage capacity, microSD support for additional memory of up to 128GB, an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 1.3-megapixel front shooter, and a 2,040 mAh battery to keep things up and running. On the software side, the handset runs Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box.
Moreover, the HTC Desire 612 also comes with BoomSound speakers for a superior audio experience, as well as support for Verizon's XLTE for blazing-fast speeds. The device will be available for free on Verizon's network, starting on Oct. 9, provided that customers sign a new two-year activation with the carrier. Verizon Edge is also available for eligible customers. Lastly, the carrier also announced that for a limited time, customers who activate or upgrade to a new smartphone on its MORE Everything plans with at least 1GB of data will also get 1GB of bonus data per month, for up to 24 months.
