Motorola launches official update tracking page for Android 5.0 Lollipop
Alexandra BurlacuMotorola now has an official update tracking page all set up, designed to offer up-to-date information regarding the Android 5.0 Lollipop rollout.
Google unveiled its latest Android 5.0 Lollipop earlier this month, on Oct. 15, introducing the biggest update to the platform since Ice Cream Sandwich. New Nexus devices served as the launch vehicles for the latest Android version, but Android 5.0 Lollipop will soon be ready to roll out to other devices as well.
The Nexus and Google Play Edition (GPE) lineups will be the first in line to get the update, after which Android 5.0 Lollipop will start reaching other handsets. Motorola was among the first OEMs to announce that it will push the latest update to its devices as soon as possible, and the company is now reiterating its commitment with a new page to track the update process.
Motorola's new update tracking page for Android 5.0 Lollipop is very similar to the page it set up last year to let Moto X and Moto G users know when they would receive KitKat. The company will upgrade most of its Android smartphones to the new OS.
Smartphones that are in for the neat software treat include both generations of the Moto X and Moto G, the Moto G with 4G LTE, the Moto E, the Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx, and Droid Mini.
It still remains unclear at this point, however, just when exactly these devices (and perhaps others) will get the bump to the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop. The fine print on the official update tracking page mentions that delivery dates are subject to the limitations of various carriers and partners, but that was expected.
While there's no specific timeframe available for the Android 5.0 Lollipop rollout for Moto and Droid devices, Motorola has so far proved to be quite prompt in delivering upgrades and keeping its lineup up-to-date.
For more information about the update or to check whether your Motorola device will be getting the new Android 5.0 Lollipop, keep an eye on the company's new update tracking page. Motorola should provide regular updates regarding the status of the upgrade process for its devices, and we'll keep you up to date as soon as more information becomes available.
