CES 2015: ASUS unveils ZenFone 2, world’s first smartphone with 4GB of RAM
Alexandra BurlacuASUS has officially announced its new ZenFone 2 flagship smartphone at CES 2015, and has prepared a neat treat when it comes to specs.
First of all, the new ASUS ZenFone 2 is the world's very first smartphone to ship with a whopping 4GB of RAM under the hood, which should allow for significantly faster performance. In fact, the company touts that its new ZenFone 2 is able to provide seven times faster gaming performance compared to its predecessor.
The ASUS ZenFone 2 sports a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display with a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and packs a quad-core Intel Atom Z3580 quad-core processor under the hood, paired with 4GB of RAM. Another model of the smartphone, meanwhile, packs a 1.8GHz Intel Atom Z3560 paired with 2GB of RAM. In terms of design, the ZenFone 2 looks and feels stylish, and the company is quite proud of it.
"ASUS ZenFone 2 has a stunning, all-new design that employs iconic Zen design elements, offering a luxe brushed-metal finish and distinctive, elegant concentric circle detailing. Including a graceful curved case that tapers to an incredibly thin 3.9 mm at the edges lends ZenFone 2 a bold yet elegant look with intuitive volume control with Rear Key," boasts the company. "Featuring a 5.5-inch FULL HD IPS display with 403ppi pixel density, the display has a slight 3 mm bezel, giving ZenFone 2 a remarkable 72% screen-to-body ratio for a maximized viewing experience."
Other specs of the new ASUS ZenFone 2 include a 13-megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash and auto focus, and a 5-megapixel front shooter.
"ZenFone 2 comes with a 13 MP PixelMaster camera and an f/2.0 aperture lens to capture stunning, high-resolution photos with zero shutter lag. This industry-leading low-light mode employs pixel-merging technology to capture up to 400% brighter photos at night, or in low-light scenes, without the need for a flash. When a flash is preferred, ZenFone 2 is equipped with a Real Tone Flash to ensure warm skin tones and accurate color."
Connectivity options consist of 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, microUSB 2.0, and A-GPS/GLONASS. The smartphone also features dual-SIM support (micro-SIM standard) and a 3,000 mAh battery.
On the software side, the new ASUS ZenFone 2 runs Android 5.0 Lollipop with the company's latest version of ZenUI on top.
In terms of pricing and availability, the new ASUS ZenFone 2 will launch in the U.S. in March with a $199 price tag on-contract. The handset will be available in several color options and three storage configurations - 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB.
