Verizon Lumia Icon Windows Phone 8.1 Lumia Denim update rolling out now
Alexandra BurlacuThe long-overdue Windows Phone 8.1 Lumia Denim update is finally rolling out to the Verizon Nokia Lumia Icon in the U.S., Microsoft officially announced.
The Nokia Lumia Icon is a powerful smartphone with a stylish design and neat specs and features all around, launching last year as an exclusive to Verizon Wireless in the U.S.
Although the handset has been on the market for a good while now, the Lumia Icon still runs the Lumia Black update on the software side. Microsoft released its Lumia Cyan update last summer, but Verizon never delivered the update to the Lumia Icon.
In fact, Verizon Wireless is notorious for dragging its feet and delivering updates much later than it should, if at all, but this time some good news are in order. The Lumia Icon is now skipping Lumia Cyan altogether, jumping from Lumia Black straight to the Windows Phone 8.1 Lumia Denim.
"Good news! The latest Windows Phone 8.1 update-Lumia Denim-is now available for the Lumia Icon in the U.S. on Verizon," Microsoft announced in a new company blog post.
"Starting today, the Lumia Denim update is rolling out to Lumia Icon devices in the United States over the Verizon network."
Windows Phone 8.1 comes as a major overhaul full of neat changes and new features, including the much-touted Cortana digital assistant, a new Action Center for notifications, a more customizable Start screen, Word Flow, Lumia Camera, Live Folders, and more.
"You'll get the latest Windows Phone 8.1 goodies including Lumia Camera, which gives you 4K video recording capability and a super-fast shutter speed, among other camera features; Live Folders; and plenty of other improvements," Microsoft further touts.
The Windows Phone 8.1 Lumia Denim update has already started rolling out to the Verizon Nokia Lumia Icon in the U.S., and all users should receive the treat shortly. Keep in mind that it's an OTA update, however, which means that not all devices will get it at the same time.
