Chromebook Pixel (2015) officially available on Google Store now, replaces 2013 model
Alexandra BurlacuGoogle's powerful new Chromebook Pixel (2015) has made its official debut, launching on the redesigned and rebranded Google Store hardware storefront.
As the name itself suggests, this 2015 Chromebook from Google comes as the successor to the original Chromebook Pixel launched back in 2013. In fact, the 2013 Chromebook Pixel didn't make it to the new Google Store, as it has been replaced by the 2015 iteration.
The original Chromebook Pixel aimed to offer a high-end Chrome OS experience, but it came with a price tag to match. Google's new Chromebook Pixel (2015) is no cheap affair either, but it does come at $300 lower compared to the $1,300 Chromebook Pixel launched in 2013.
More specifically, the new Chromebook Pixel (2015) starts at $999 for the model with an Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage. It's still notably more expensive than other Chromebooks available on the market, but it's nonetheless cheaper than its predecessor. At the same time, interested customers looking for more horsepower can also choose a higher-end variant with an Intel i7 processor under the hood, 16GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage. This higher-end model is dubbed the "LS" and comes with a $1,300 price tag.
Both Chromebook Pixel (2015) models feature the same 3:2, 2560 x 1700 touchscreen display and promise to deliver a 12-hour battery life on a single charge. Google's latest laptop also comes with fast-charging technology, enabling it to get two hours of use with a 15-minute rapid charge.
The Chromebook Pixel (2015) further features two USB-C ports, two USB 3.0 ports, a microSD card reader, and a headphone jack.
In terms of design, both the standard Chromebook Pixel (2015) and the higher-end LS model share the same design language of their predecessor, the 2013 Chromebook Pixel. Nevertheless, the speaker grills, screws, and fan vents are far more discreet on the new models, adding to a sleeker look overall.
Lastly, as expected, the new Chromebook Pixel (2015) runs Chrome OS on the software side, complete with Android apps.
