Sony SmartWatch 3 Android Wear update brings neat features and functionality
Alexandra BurlacuThe Sony SmartWatch 3 is all set to receive a neat Android Wear update, which will make the standalone gadget even more useful and convenient.
Google has recently updated its Android Wear platform to add a number of exciting new features, and the Sony SmartWatch 3 will have several goodies to offer with the new version of the software.
"SmartWatch 3 set a standard for standalone Android Wear functionality, with native GPS and offline music playback - and the latest update takes that to the next level. 'WiFi for Android Wear' will connect your phone to your watch via the cloud, so you won't always need a tethered Bluetooth connection. As SmartWatch 3 is Wi-Fi ready, whenever you're connected to Wi-Fi, you can walk away from your phone safe in the knowledge you'll still be able to send messages, use apps and see those all important likes and tweets," Sony touted in a new company blog post on Monday, April 20.
"Wearable tech should take dependencies away to make life easier, and this update goes further to do just that - Android Wear will now respond to gestures, so you can scroll through cards and apps on SmartWatch 3 with a simple flick of the wrist."
More specifically, users will now be able to go through notifications simply by flicking their wrist inward or outward with the Sony SmartWatch 3. This way, they will be able to scroll through notifications "hands-free," which makes all interaction more natural and convenient. Moreover, users will also be able to draw an emoji on their watch's face and the smartwatch will translate it to the closest emoji, allowing users to send it via SMS, Hangouts, or other messaging apps.
The new Android Wear update also includes other new features such as Wi-Fi support, GPS, and offline. For instance, users will be able to leave the phone at home and still have it connected to the smartwatch, as long as the wearable is on Wi-Fi or cellular data. The smartwatch will show maps, notifications, and other data even if it's not on the same network as the smartphone.
Google also equipped its Android Wear with a new launcher that will now allow users to contact friends and open applications in a faster and easier manner, and the update will also bring adjustable font sizes. Lastly, the Sony SmartWatch 3 will now display pop up notifications even if the user is currently doing something else on the smartwatch, thus ensuring that you never miss anything.
