Samsung Galaxy Alpha Android 5.0 Lollipop availability expands
Alexandra BurlacuAndroid 5.0 Lollipop is expanding its availability to more Galaxy devices, as the update has started rolling out to the Samsung Galaxy Alpha in Korea.
A number of devices in Samsung's lineup have already received an upgrade to the last major version of Android, as the Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note 3, and others have already got a taste of Android 5.0 Lollipop. AT&T has also announced a Galaxy Alpha Lollipop update earlier this month, and now more regions are getting the treat.
Samsung has long been criticized for its love of plastic even in its highest-end devices, and the Galaxy Alpha raised lots of interest upon its debut because it finally sported a more premium build with a metal edge rather than a full-plastic body.
The first Samsung Galaxy smartphone to launch with a metallic build is now getting the Lollipop treat in Korea, just as promised. Samsung had previously confirmed that the Galaxy Alpha was on the list to get Android 5.0 Lollipop with all its treats and goodies, and the update has now started rolling out.
According to SamMobile, the Samsung Galaxy Alpha is getting the same version that graced the aforementioned Galaxy devices, i.e. Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. The update is reportedly rolling out now on the three major carriers in South Korea, arriving either over the air (OTA) or via Samsung Kies. The new Android 5.0 Lollipop will bring a number of neat features, performance optimizations, notification enhancements, battery improvements, a refreshed user interface (UI), Material Design elements, and more.
So far the Samsung Galaxy Alpha (SM-G850) in South Korea has started receiving the update, but Android 5.0.2 Lollipop should see a global release for the handset soon enough. It remains unclear for now just when other markets will get the same treat, but it shouldn't be too long now. Once the rollout has started, it's only a matter of time before it expands its availability to more regions.
If you're in South Korea and have already received Android 5.0.2 Lollipop on your Samsung Galaxy Alpha, drop by our comment section below and tell us how it fares. If you're in some other market, leave us a comment once the update reaches your region. We'll keep you up to date as soon as the firmware hits more countries, so stay tuned.
