HTC J Butterfly HTV31 officially unveiled with top-notch specs
Alexandra BurlacuThe latest member of the powerful HTC Butterfly family is now official, as the new HTC J Butterfly HTV31 made its debut in Japan.
Rumors of a new-generation HTC Butterfly smartphone powerhouse have been making rounds since April, with various leaked specifications hinting at a top-notch handset that would combine the most powerful aspects of the recent HTC One M9 and One M9+.
Fast forward to present date and the impressive new HTC J Butterfly HTV31 is now official, and the rumored specs turned out to be accurate, portraying a top-of-the-line smartphone.
The new HTC J Butterfly iteration comes with a 5.2-inch display with a QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor under the hood, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage capacity, expandable via microSD. Other specs of the HTC J Butterfly HTV31 include a 20.2-megapixel DUO camera setup on the rear, a powerful 13-megapixel front shooter, and a 2,700 mAh battery to keep things up and running. On the software side, the smartphone will ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop on board out of the box. Moreover, the handset is also dust- and waterproof for extra durability.
The HTC J Butterfly HTV31 is announced only for Japan at this point, and it will make its debut in the country later this summer via KDDI. HTC made no mention of the smartphone's release in other markets at this point. The company has previously launched a global version of a Butterfly handset in other markets, but it remains unclear for now whether it will also unveil an international variant of its latest J Butterfly HTV31.
Lastly, it's worth pointing out that the newly-announced HTC J Butterfly HTV31 should not be mistaken for the J Butterfly HTL21 released a few years back (in 2012), which packed a Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset. The names may sound similar, but there's an immense difference in terms of hardware specifications.
We'll keep you up to date if we hear more about a potential version of the latest HTC J Butterfly for global markets, but for now the smartphone seems exclusive to the Japanese market. For more information about the handset's specs and features, check out KDDI's announcement (translated).
