Halo 5 Forge Is Coming to PC for Free, 'Just The Beginning'
Jazz RosinMicrosoft announced this week that Halo 5's map-making program Forge will be coming to the PC.
Halo's map-making program has been a staple to the Halo franchise since Halo 3. Forge allows players to create custom levels, game types, and machinima and share them with other users. Now Microsoft has announced that Forge - Halo 5: Guardians Edition will also be released on Windows 10.
The Halo 5 Forge will allow creators to create custom content on Windows 10, and then upload them for Xbox gameplay, according to Xbox Wire. Halo 5 Forge enables players to use their PC keyboard, mouse, and 4K support. Microsoft has said that the main goal for releasing the Forge on PC is to make the creating process easier for players.
The announcement has drawn quite a lot of buzz among Halo fans, including speculations on a Halo 5 PC version. Microsoft has not confirmed this so far. "As we've shared previously, we do not have plans to launch Halo 5: Guardians on Windows 10," a spokesperson for Microsoft said. "We are focused on building Halo Wars 2 for Windows 10 and Xbox One. Releasing Forge for Windows 10 for free will open up endless opportunities to the PC community to build and play Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer content, while also allowing them to share their creations with gamers on Xbox One as well."
However, Halo 5's studio head Josh Holmes stated on Twitter that Halo 5 Forge coming out on Windows 10 is "just the beginning", which signifies that more Halo-related goodies are on its way.
Microsoft has also announced on a recent update that the Halo 5 Forge on Windows 10 will not support matchmaking, which means Forge creations can only be shared with the players on the creator's friends list. "The intent of the experience is to allow Windows 10 users to Forge more effectively with keyboard and mouse and test their creations on PC before publishing to Xbox One," Holmes said on the Halo 5 Forge forum thread. "As such, there is no support for matchmaking or server browser. You will need to invite friends into a session through Xbox Live."
No release dates were given for Forge - Halo 5: Guardians Edition yet. Despite Microsoft denying any possibilities of making Halo 5 available on the PC, fans took the release of Forge as a sign of things to come. And with E3 just around the corner, fans can only hope for the 'master race' to finally experience Halo 5 on their PC's.
