Game developer Electronic Arts has just released the launch trailer for action-adventure platform game Mirror's Edge Catalyst.
The trailer, posted on the official Mirror's Edge Youtube channel, shows the main character, Faith Connors, in an encounter with the game's antagonist Gabriel Kruger. The short two-minute clip also showcases some gameplay footage, showing Faith running across rooftops and scaling ropes, and a bit of fight sequences as well, all in glorious first-person mode.
Polygon said that game has a 'visual language and color palette' that makes it distinctly Mirror's Edge. However, fans of the game might feel differently about the trailer, giving out a sense of familiarity rather than excitement. Polygon added that the game is something that they would want to watch instead of play. Gamespot pointed out that the trailer showed some features, like free-running and combat, which the fans would expect to see.
DICE Design director Erik Odeldahl describes his latest game as "a game that's built a lot on momentum and forward movement and not stopping, reaching almost a zen-like thing." Odeldahl is one of the people behind the idea of a Mirror's Edge reboot.
The game was delayed twice already, Endgaget reports. The first date was pushed back from February to May, to allow extra time for the team to develop the game, and again from May to June to incorporate feedback from the game's closed beta.
Despite the delays, Odeldahl said that he is happy with the feedback that Mirror's Edge Catalyst has received. "When you release games, and the internet being the internet, there's always some negativity," he says. "But I actually looked and I could find very little of it. That, to me, was the most surprising thing."
Mirror's Edge Catalyst will be out on June 7 for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC. EA/Origin Access members will be able to get in the game a few days earlier, and can start playing on June 2.
