'Destiny: Rise of Iron' DLC Release Date, Update: Bungie Explains Why Last-Gen Consoles PS3, Xbox 360 Are Being Left Out
Jazz RosinGame developer Bungie announced last week that the latest expansion to its massively multiplayer shooter "Destiny," "Rise of Iron," will not be available on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.

Game director Christopher Barrett has shed light on why the developer has made this decision during an IGN interview at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3.
Barett explained around 90 percent of its player base is on the current-gen consoles (Playstation 4 and Xbox One), and because of this, they have decided not to include last-gen consoles (now being referred to as Legacy consoles) on the new content.
"We've reached a point where if we wanted to put new stuff in the game, and we wanted to support the legacy consoles, we'd have to start taking stuff out, and we really don't want to do that." Barrett said.
"We don't want to make those kinds of choices, so I think it's a logical progression." he added.
Having said this, Barrett confirmed that it was not an easy decision for the game developers to leave out its legacy players. However, the game director is confident that this is the best decision for the fans of "Destiny".
The players on legacy consoles will still be able to play "Destiny" as it stands now, and will still get support from Bungie after the character progression split in August, Gamespot reported.
In other news, Bungie's community manager David Dague confirmed that there will be no "Collector's Edition" for "Destiny: Rise of Iron."
During Gamespot's live stream interview, Dague said that unlike "The Taken King," "Rise of Iron" will not have separate editions.
"The Iron Gjallarhorn--you can get that if you preorder before launch," Dague said. "But we're having one version of Rise of Iron."
"Destiny: Rise of Iron" will be available on September 20 for Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
