GoPro Hero 5 Release Date, Rumors: Is The Next-Gen Camera A Drone?
Jenia GraciaSearch engines went into overdrive when rumors surfaced that the GoPro Hero 5's release date was just around the corner.
This is no surprise since the Go Pro is now considered the go-to camera not only of sports enthusiasts and action videographers, but virtually anyone who wants to capture their most treasured moments in digital format.
After staying under the radar for a while, GoPro's executives are once again stirring excitement among video buffs by teasing the possibility that the next-gen GoPro will be launched simultaneously with a drone dubbed Karma, according to the Verge.
In an interview with the tech website, Nick Woodman, GoPro CEO, revealed that the company would be unveiling three new devices within this year, although he did not categorically say if the GoPro 5 was included in the list, nor mention any specific release date.
Woodman was also candid enough to admit that the company's revenues had slipped in 2015, which consequently diminished its stock value and sent jitters among investors.
However, he remained optimistic that the company would be able to recover lost ground with the launch of its new products within the year.
"Our growth rate has slowed, and some analysts have attributed this to competitive threats and our ability to address a market beyond our core customer," the CEO explained during the company's initial investor call of 2016.
In the meantime, rumors that the release date of the GoPro Hero 5 might come sooner than expected have boosted the company's stock by 13%.
In fact, GoPro shares have been on the rebound over the past several weeks, as it closed at $12.43 on Monday, according to Fortune.
Expectations were high that the company's long-delayed drone camera, the Karma, called would be rolled out in June of this year.
The device, however, just wasn't ready to make its debut and its launch has been delayed since then.
GoPro's latest model is therefore expected to provide a major boost to the company's sluggish sales, as it is expected to be priced higher than its predecessor, ranging from $200 to $500.
"The latest rumor surrounding these upcoming products is that the newest edition of the company's signature camera line, the GoPro Hero 5, will launch alongside the company's first ever drone," noted Zacks analyst Ryan McQueeney.
Stay tuned for more updates as the release date of the GoPro Hero 5 is within the horizon.
