While almost each and every tech site have advised, a huge number of users who decided to use Pangu's Jailbreak tool for iOS 9.3.2 - 9.3.3 still used their own Apple IDs that may even involve their other personal information. The possible result is getting their bank and PayPal accounts hacked.
9to5Mac reported that a number of users of the much-anticipated Jailbreak tool for iOS 9.3.2 - 9.3.3 got their personal information compromised. Subredditors supported these claims as some of the members from the community itself experienced the incident.
The reporting site, however, cited clearly that it may have been a coincidence. There's also a big possibility that the exploit took place after the official distribution of the tool.
Regardless of the possible causes, it simply showed that there's a huge risk involved with Jailbreaking and nobody's an exception as long as they started the process and disclosed even the littlest of their personal information.
As reported, those who have experienced the problem were those who have used PPHelper tool. According to 9to5Mac, there's a good chance that the tool, the users have acquired, have already been altered and injected with malicious code.
Aside from bank accounts and PayPal accounts, some users even got their social media accounts like Facebook hacked.
The incident mainly took place in countries like Taiwan, Vietnam, Beijing and some places in China.
Cydia creator, Saurik, stated that he completely trust Pangu. However, he has his doubts with the tool after it was set for distribution, particularly with 25PP tool.
"I don't particularly like the concept of installing the 25PP tool, as Chinese companies tend to have software that is pretty intrusive and even "combative" against competitor's software, and in general I am concerned about the way people do signature stuff which is why I worked so hard to make Impactor be able to do all the signing and communication locally." - Saurik posted on Reddit.
However, this is a not a message for jailbreakers to avoid the process itself. Taking all the necessary precaution is highly advised in doing so and to do this, using a dummy Apple ID is ALWAYS suggested.
If users have happened to use the PPHelper tool for iOS Jailbreak for 9.3.2 - 9.3.3, it would also be a good thing to check their social accounts as well as their bank accounts for any signs of compromise. Changing passwords goes a long way in these types of situations.
