Apple Watch 2 Rumors: New Device To Have Different Touch Panel Technology
Jenia GraciaThe latest Apple Watch 2 rumors suggested that the upcoming wearable will already make use of a different touch panel technology.
Accordingly, the American tech giant is shifting from G/G to OGS (one glass solution) touch panel technology for its upcoming smartwatch, which is expected to be launched within the second semester of 2016.
With this move, touch panel maker TPK Holdings has suffered a huge loss during the second quarter of this year, DigiTimes reported.
"TPK posted consolidated revenues of NT$17.085 billion, gross margin of negative 9.29 percent, operating loss of NT$2.743 billion and net loss of NT$2.499 billion for the second quarter," the company said.
With Apple Watch 2 already bearing the OGS touch panel technology, TPK has to face the "unexpected technological difficulties and therefore yield rates for OGS touch panels were much lower than expected."
Apple is one of the companies' biggest clients, contributing 37 percent of TPK's total revenues in the second quarter.
Meanwhile, Computer World reported that the Apple Watch 2 is expected to record a consolidated sales of 6 million units just weeks from its release date.
Based on the findings gathered by a Next Worth survey, "The Apple Watch 2 is predicted to sell more devices in the first six months than the original device has sold since its launch."
Two of the major results of the survey resulted to the following: half of the 540 smartwatch owners surveyed have admitted about their plan of upgrading their current fitness wearable; and 22 percent of the non-smartwatch owners have plans of buying their own device within the year.
Furthermore, it has been anticipated that Apple will enjoy 6.8 million sales from its existing clients alone once the second generation Apple Watch is already available.
